Wool Care Guide

Good news first: Merino wool is easier to care for than you may expect.

Washing

Generally, wool garments need far less washing than other fibres. Merino wool is naturally dirt- and odour-resistant, so even children’s clothes can often be worn multiple times before needing a wash.

If washing is needed:

  • Hand wash when possible, using cool water. Avoid wringing or squeezing the fabric.
  • More realistically for busy families: machine wash cold on a wool or delicate cycle.
  • Use a mild wool detergent and skip fabric softener.

A special note for boiled (felted) wool jackets and outdoor suits:
Avoid soaking or hand washing unless absolutely necessary, as this can affect the structure of the felted wool. Instead of washing, simply brush off dried dirt with a soft brush. If needed, spot clean gently with water and a small amount of wool detergent.

Drying

  • Gently reshape while damp

  • Lay flat to dry

  • No dryer!

Stains

  • Rinse immediately in cold water

  • Dab — don’t rub

  • Spot clean with wool soap

Odour

Usually airing overnight is enough — washing is rarely needed.
